    New York’s disposal ban is staged in terms of the entities subject to the ban. The ban became effective for manufacturers, retailers and owner/operators of collection, consolidation and recycling facilities on 4/1/11 and any person other than an individual/household on 1/1/12. All New York entities including individuals/households will be subject to the ban effective 1/1/2015.

    Manufacturers of covered electronic equipment must implement a plan for the collection, consolidation and recycling of electronic waste (e-waste) from New York consumers. Manufacturers must establish a convenient acceptance system for consumers to ensure every county in New York State and every municipality with a population of 10,000 or more has at least one collection opportunity. Manufacturers will have a market share recycling obligation based on a statewide goal that increases each year.
